The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has issued a forecast predicting a significant weather shift across Egypt, with a low-pressure system expected to bring widespread rain and thunderstorms from Sunday through next Wednesday. Satellite imagery has already detected thunderclouds over southern Red Sea mountain ranges, including areas near Ras Banas and Abu Ramad, with rainfall of varying intensity reported. Intermittent rains are also anticipated over Halayeb and Shalateen.
Weather maps indicate that this extensive rainy spell, affecting regions along both the Mediterranean and Red Seas, carries a potential risk of flash floods. The adverse weather is set to commence on Sunday evening and continue into Monday, impacting the Red Sea region, South Sinai, and Upper Egypt. By Wednesday, the forecast extends to the Mediterranean coast, the Nile Delta, the Suez Canal region, and North Sinai, with possible spillover into parts of Greater Cairo, northern Upper Egypt, and the New Valley Governorate.
The EMA has specifically warned of thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and downdrafts, in these affected areas. Particular attention is drawn to South Sinai, the Red Sea mountain range, Aswan, and the southern reaches of Upper Egypt, including Luxor. Citizens are strongly advised by the EMA to take necessary precautions and preparations to mitigate the potential impacts of this weather event and to remain informed by monitoring the latest bulletins issued by the authority.
