An Al Ain court has ordered two men to pay a fine of Dh50,000 each following the assault of a petrol station employee during a disagreement regarding a car windscreen cleaning request. Announced by the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department via social media on Thursday, the Al Ain Misdemeanour Court additionally mandated that both individuals complete two months of community service at the specific petrol station where the altercation occurred.

According to court documents, the incident began when a driver requested the petrol station worker to clean his windscreen. The employee responded that the station was currently busy and the driver would need to wait. This exchange quickly devolved into a heated argument and subsequent physical assault, which resulted in the employee suffering bruises and pain, as confirmed by a medical report submitted during the legal proceedings.

The conviction of the two men was secured using a comprehensive body of evidence, which included surveillance footage from the petrol station, statements from witnesses, admissions made by the defendants during the trial, and the official medical report. Consequently, the defendants were found guilty of assaulting an individual performing a public service as well as disturbing public order.

In delivering its verdict, the court cited the Crimes and Penalties Law, which strictly prohibits the use of force or violence to assault or resist public employees or individuals assigned to public service duties while they are carrying out their responsibilities or as a result of them. Furthermore, the court stressed that adherence to the law and reliance on official channels to resolve disputes remain the most effective methods to prevent severe legal consequences.
