Jordanian security forces have apprehended three suspects in connection with the unprecedented attack on a church in the Karak governorate, which resulted in nine fatalities, according to the state-run Petra news agency on Monday. The assault, involving gunmen firing on a church in the village of Hamoud in Karak, claimed the lives of nine people and left 40 others wounded. The Public Security Directorate of Jordan announced that security forces located the three suspects early Monday hiding in an abandoned house. The suspects reportedly refused to surrender and opened fire on security forces, who returned fire and arrested all three after they sustained injuries. No security personnel were harmed during the operation, and firearms and ammunition were confiscated, the directorate stated. The Public Security Directorate's statement did not disclose the suspects' affiliation or whether they were linked to any militant group. Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen Al Faraya affirmed the government's commitment to reassuring the public through decisive action following the tragedy, adding that the perpetrators had been apprehended and all involved would be held accountable. Mr. Al Faraya had previously stated on Friday that the attack was carried out by extremists, but it was premature to determine any connections to known groups within or outside Jordan. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Hundreds of Jordanians from across the kingdom attended a funeral service for eight of the nine Christians killed by gunmen in Jordan on Sunday, held at the same church where the attack occurred. On Friday, King Abdullah had declared that the attack would be met with force, vowing to crack down on those responsible and asserting that the shooting would not fracture national unity. He also unequivocally labeled the incident as 'terrorism'.
