The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has officially confirmed that the 2027 Asian Cup will proceed as scheduled in Saudi Arabia. The tournament is set to commence on January 7, with the opening match featuring Saudi Arabia against Palestine at Riyadh's King Fahd Sports City Stadium. This 24-team continental championship will conclude on February 5, with both the inaugural match and the final slated to be held at the same iconic venue.

The tournament will span across eight venues situated in three key cities: Riyadh will host five venues, Jeddah will have two, and Al Khobar will host one. The UAE national team is placed in Group E and will commence their Asian Cup journey against Vietnam on January 11 at the Imam Mohammed Bin Saud University Stadium in Riyadh. Their subsequent group fixture is scheduled against Yemen on January 15, also at Riyadh's King Fahd Sports City Stadium. The UAE's final group stage match will be against South Korea on January 20, taking place at the Imam Mohammed Bin Saud University Stadium.

Defending champions Qatar are scheduled to begin their title defense against Thailand on January 11, while Japan will face Indonesia on the same day. The group stage is set to wrap up on January 20, with the knockout rounds commencing on January 22.

This marks Saudi Arabia's first time hosting the Asian Cup, seven years prior to its staging of the 2034 World Cup. It will be the second FIFA finals to be held in the Gulf region, following the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Notably, Morocco is set to co-host the 2030 World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

The confirmation of the tournament's schedule comes at a time when Saudi Arabia has experienced a series of event postponements and cancellations due to ongoing intense fighting between the kingdom and Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels. In recent weeks, several matches involving Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr, the Six Kings tennis tournament, and the 2027 Dakar Rally have been either rescheduled or postponed. Additionally, Riyadh Fashion Week and the Future Investment Initiative conference were among various cultural and economic events that have been postponed.
