World-renowned Indian spiritual leader and humanitarian Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, known to millions as Gurudev, is undertaking a four-day cultural and spiritual journey through Egypt from October 25 to 28. The program, titled “A Journey to Egypt with Gurudev,” combines historical exploration with personal reflection, guiding participants through iconic sites such as the Pyramids of Giza, the temples of Luxor, and a Nile voyage. This retreat offers more than just sightseeing; it provides a space for deep meditation, music, and discussions aimed at fostering daily tranquility and human connection.
As the founder of the Art of Living Foundation, established in 1981, Ravi Shankar has dedicated over four decades to promoting global peace and self-discovery. The foundation has grown into a significant international educational and non-profit organization operating in over 180 countries. It offers breathwork and meditation courses alongside extensive community development and humanitarian relief efforts. These initiatives include improving access to children’s education, advancing women's empowerment, aiding prison inmate rehabilitation, and providing disaster relief in conflict-affected areas. Environmental conservation is also a key focus, with projects dedicated to river restoration and sustainable agriculture.
Ravi Shankar is also recognized for his personal commitment to peace-building and has played a role as a mediator in global conflict zones, notably facilitating peace and reconciliation dialogues in Colombia. In 2016, he received the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian honor, for his humanitarian service.
His extensive work includes designing over 50 meditation and self-development programs, training more than 41,000 instructors, and impacting over a billion lives globally, supported by an online community of over 26 million followers. Following his engagements in Egypt, Ravi Shankar is scheduled to travel to Munich, Germany, from October 30 to November 3 for live breathing and meditation workshops, concluding with a Happiness Festival.
