Qatar and Kyrgyzstan have signed a series of agreements aimed at significantly boosting bilateral trade and investment. Both nations are actively exploring new avenues for collaboration, with a particular focus on key sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy, and agriculture.
The Qatar Chamber and Kyrgyzstan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry have formalized their commitment through two key agreements designed to enhance economic cooperation and establish a new joint Qatari-Kyrgyz Business Council. These pacts were finalized at the Qatar Chamber's headquarters in Doha on Sunday, following productive discussions between high-level officials from both countries.
The central themes of the meeting revolved around expanding trade volumes, stimulating joint investment initiatives, and reinforcing the partnership between the private sectors of Qatar and Kyrgyzstan. Mr. Mohamed bin Ahmed bin Twar Al Kuwari, First Vice-Chairman of the Qatar Chamber, and Avazbek Kerimbaev, Vice-President of the Kyrgyz Chamber, officially signed the agreements after extensive deliberations and a visit by the Kyrgyz delegation to the Qatar Chamber.
Mr. Al Kuwari highlighted the pivotal role the new business council will play in providing a dedicated platform for businesses from both nations to facilitate information exchange, explore commercial prospects, and deepen cooperation across various industries. He also put forward the idea of organizing virtual meetings among business representatives to pinpoint potential investment opportunities and forge strategic partnerships.
The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished officials, including Mohammed bin Jawhar Al Mohamed, a Board Member of the Qatar Chamber; Meerimbek Koichumanov, Deputy Director of Kyrgyzstan’s National Investment Agency; and Aibek Toktobolotov, Kyrgyzstan’s Ambassador to Qatar.
Qatar Explores Central Asian Investment Horizons
Al Mohamed emphasized Qatar's private sector's strong interest in broadening its international collaborations, with a specific emphasis on markets within Central Asia. He identified solar energy, infrastructure development, and the agriculture and livestock sectors as particularly promising areas for joint ventures with Kyrgyzstan.
Kyrgyz officials echoed this sentiment, expressing a keen desire to strengthen economic ties with Qatar. Their focus areas include the construction industry and infrastructure development. Kerimbaev noted Kyrgyzstan's ambition to increase its agricultural product exports to the Qatari market, alongside attracting further investment and expanding overall trade between the two nations. He expressed confidence that the newly signed agreements would serve to bolster business relations, streamline trade processes, and encourage mutual investment.
Building on a Decade of Economic Partnership
These latest agreements represent a significant step forward, building upon more than ten years of established cooperation between the respective chambers. Records from the Qatari Embassy in Bishkek indicate that the Qatar Chamber and its Kyrgyz counterpart initially signed a memorandum of understanding in March 2012, followed by another cooperation agreement in December 2014.
