Amman, Jordan – Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi held significant discussions with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan in Amman on Monday. The meetings focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across various key sectors between the two neighboring countries.

According to Jordan’s Petra news agency, King Abdullah and Mr. Al Zaidi explored avenues to enhance joint action, with particular emphasis on energy, electricity interconnection, transport, and security initiatives. Following these discussions, the Iraqi leader and Mr. Hassan presided over expanded talks involving both Iraqi and Jordanian delegations. During these sessions, they reviewed the current state of bilateral relations and identified strategies to bolster cooperation in the fields of energy, economy, investment, trade, industry, and security, as stated by Mr. Al Zaidi's office.

Regional developments were also a key topic, with both sides underscoring the paramount importance of the Palestinian cause and the necessity of upholding the rights of the Palestinian people. The leaders jointly advocated for sustained diplomatic efforts and dialogue to effectively address regional challenges, resolve ongoing crises and conflicts, and mitigate their adverse consequences.

Prime Minister Al Zaidi highlighted the importance of establishing a free-trade zone between Iraq and Jordan to stimulate commercial exchanges and foster deeper economic integration. Prime Minister Hassan, in turn, remarked that the visit underscored the strong relationship between the two nations and reiterated Jordan’s unwavering support for the Iraqi government and its people.

The visit culminated in the signing of nine memorandums of understanding and cooperation programs. These agreements aim to broaden collaboration in critical areas such as competition policies, environmental protection, higher education and scientific research, consumer protection, and the management of documents and archives. Additionally, the accords encompass support for small and medium-sized enterprises, along with cultural and educational cooperation programs set to run until 2028.
