Mubadala Capital announced on Monday that Apollo Global Management will make a strategic investment to support its upcoming growth phase. Apollo will acquire a minority equity stake in Mubadala Capital and contribute capital across its diverse investment strategies, as stated in a company media release. The firm will also welcome other strategic investors as minority shareholders, with an anticipated commitment of $5 billion directed towards Mubadala Capital’s investment strategies. Silver Rock Financial is also an existing equity holder in Mubadala Capital. Mubadala Investment Company will continue to hold the majority shareholding.
Following the addition of these new equity shareholders, Mubadala Capital is set to continue its independent operations and maintain its current governance structure. The existing management team will retain full authority over all investment decisions and operational matters, according to the news release. Hani Barhoush, chief executive of Mubadala Capital, commented, "Mubadala Capital was built to connect the world’s capital with differentiated private market opportunities, and this partnership accelerates that ambition. Apollo is one of the most respected institutions in our industry, and their confidence in what we are building reflects the strength of the platform we’ve created and the trajectory we are on." He also noted that Apollo has been a "trusted partner" for several years.
Established in 2011, Mubadala Capital has rapidly evolved into a next-generation alternative asset manager, with its core alternatives business overseeing more than $60 billion across five distinct investment strategies. As of the end of June, Apollo managed approximately $1.05 trillion in assets. John Zito, co-president of Apollo Asset Management, stated, "This investment in the differentiated asset management platform they have built in Mubadala Capital builds on our existing partnership and reflects our conviction in their business." He added, "This investment will deepen our alignment and strengthen our mutual commitment to each other’s success, while creating significant opportunities to reach a broader global investor base.”
The transaction is anticipated to be finalized in the fourth quarter of 2026, pending the necessary regulatory and legal approvals.
