Abu Dhabi has announced a significant infrastructure development, a Dh872 million ($237 million) project designed to connect Ramhan and Jubail Islands to the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed (E12) motorway. This ambitious undertaking, spanning 166,000 square metres, will feature seven bridges and three tunnels, with an anticipated completion date in 2027. The project encompasses a comprehensive network of ramps, roads, and utility corridors aimed at enhancing road accessibility and capacity, thereby fostering smoother traffic flow within the region.

Eisa Al Mazrouei, director general of Infrastructure Development at the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), highlighted the project's importance as a pivotal component of Abu Dhabi's expanding transportation network. "This sophisticated construction project represents an important part of Abu Dhabi's evolving transportation network, facilitating access to Ramhan and Jubail Islands while unlocking new development zones and economic opportunities," stated Mr. Al Mazrouei. The DMT confirmed that advanced works are currently in progress, underscoring the department’s commitment to improving mobility links across the capital. This initiative also aligns with the DMT's broader strategy to cultivate integrated communities and contribute to the emirate's urban and economic growth.

The design of the project integrates sustainability principles with environmentally conscious features. It will utilize energy-efficient LED lighting throughout to minimize energy consumption and light pollution, and is projected to recycle approximately 90 per cent of construction waste, equating to over 2,200 tonnes. Ramhan and Jubail islands, situated off Abu Dhabi's coast, are designated for substantial residential and commercial development, making improved road connectivity a strategic priority in the emirate's long-term urban planning.

Ramhan Island, developed by Eagle Hills, covers 400 hectares, with over half designated for development. Upon its opening, the island is expected to accommodate approximately 1,800 stand-alone villas, 900 marina residences, a luxury hotel, and a retail promenade. Jubail Island, a 4,000-hectare waterfront master-planned community conceptualized and developed by Lead Development, is characterized by its surrounding mangroves, waterways, and forested trails, positioning it as an ideal location for families seeking a balanced lifestyle. The company emphasizes its design for future generations, promoting a concept of living well at "human speed" amidst nature.
