Dr. Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE President, has issued a stark warning: "wars lead only to further crises." This statement comes as concerns mount over the potential for a renewed US offensive against Iran. Dr. Gargash stressed that diplomacy remains the "most effective path" to achieving regional peace and security, conveying the UAE's position via social media on Wednesday in response to "growing speculation over possible escalation and confrontation." He reiterated on X that "The UAE’s approach remains firm and clear, based on wisdom, balance and prioritising dialogue and political solutions." He further stated, "Regional experience has shown that wars lead only to further crises, and that diplomacy is the most effective path to safeguarding security and achieving peace and stability." This comes after The Wall Street Journal reported that the US President Donald Trump administration had alerted several Gulf Arab countries to prepare for a potential US military campaign against Iran following the November 3 midterm elections. The report indicated that Mr. Trump was considering a brief but intense series of strikes, possibly targeting Iranian nuclear sites, missile and drone arsenals, and critical infrastructure, though a final decision had not been made and diplomatic efforts were ongoing, according to sources briefed on the matter. Concurrently, Qatari mediators presented Iran with a new draft deal on Sunday aimed at a permanent settlement to the war, a source informed Reuters on Wednesday. Iran was reportedly considering the proposal and expected to provide a response by the week's end. During the peak of the war, which commenced on February 28, Iran launched ballistic missiles and drones targeting the UAE and other Gulf states, with attempts to strike civilian infrastructure, including energy sites and airports. The UAE was the most significantly impacted, enduring over 550 ballistic missiles and 2,265 drones, the majority of which were intercepted or destroyed. A ceasefire was established in June following a memorandum of understanding signed by the US and Iran, intended to facilitate a final peace settlement. However, Mr. Trump declared the truce and MoU "over" in early July after Iran's renewed attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and subsequent American retaliatory strikes. Both sides have recently signaled preparations for a resumption of hostilities.
