A Russian drone targeted the main railway station in the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro on Thursday morning, resulting in the deaths of 14 people as they awaited a train. The attack, which also wounded 10 others, is the latest in a series of Russian assaults on civilian areas, transport, and energy infrastructure across Ukraine. Authorities reported that at least 19 people, including two 15-year-old girls, lost their lives nationwide on Thursday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the Dnipro strike as "horrific" and reiterated his call for increased sanctions against Russia. He questioned the timing of sanctions relief for Russian oligarchs and the energy sector, suggesting it has not led to de-escalation. Zelensky offered condolences to the families of the victims, emphasizing that sanctions against Moscow and its "war machine" should not be eased while the conflict persists. This statement follows US President Donald Trump's decision earlier this month to waive certain sanctions related to Russian fossil fuel sales, a move that had angered Kyiv.

Reports from Russian state media indicated ongoing discussions between Washington and the Kremlin regarding the potential lifting of sanctions on Russia's sovereign wealth fund, which were initially imposed by the Biden administration following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

President Zelensky confirmed that two trains were present at the Dnipro station during the drone attack. Graphic footage from the scene depicted bodies on the platform. The head of the hospital treating the wounded informed local media that many sustained shrapnel injuries, with four individuals undergoing emergency surgery.

Among Thursday's casualties were two 15-year-old girls killed in a separate Russian strike in the northern city of Chernihiv. Additionally, three people died in a Russian drone attack on a residential building in the Poltava region.

Meanwhile, in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, a ceasefire brokered by first lady Melania Trump has been observed since Tuesday. This pause in fighting has allowed for the evacuation of vulnerable residents from Oleshky, where thousands have been trapped without essential supplies due to ongoing conflict. The temporary halt in strikes is also intended to facilitate the delivery of critical aid. Both sides have reportedly adhered to the ceasefire terms, which are set to remain in effect until November 1.
