Police Scotland has initiated an investigation into a 1999 visit to the Balmoral royal estate by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and Prince Andrew, brother of King Charles III. The probe follows allegations of human trafficking concerning women reportedly transported to the Scottish residence. Law enforcement officials confirmed they have received information regarding the stay of Epstein, Andrew, and Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell at the royal castle, noting that the inquiries are in their preliminary stages.

The visit to the royal estate is now under scrutiny. Epstein was a guest at Balmoral Castle in 1999, invited by Andrew, who was then known as Prince Andrew. Photographs, part of US Department of Justice filings, depict Epstein and Maxwell at Glen Beg lodge on the estate, as well as images of Andrew and Epstein engaged in a shooting excursion in the vicinity. British media reports indicate that the new investigation specifically targets suspicions of sex trafficking, involving women brought to the Highland location.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland stated that all investigations are evidence-based and prioritize survivor needs, declining to offer further details on the ongoing inquiries. The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has confirmed that multiple UK police forces, including Thames Valley Police, London’s Metropolitan Police, and Surrey Police, are actively pursuing leads derived from the recently unsealed “Epstein Files.”

Balmoral Castle, privately purchased by Queen Victoria in 1852, traditionally serves as the British Royal Family’s summer residence and was the location of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in September 2022. Prince Andrew, the former Duke of York, had his royal titles rescinded by King Charles III following further revelations about his association with Epstein. In February, Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, related to allegations of sharing sensitive information with Epstein during his role as a UK trade envoy. He was questioned under oath and subsequently released pending investigation, consistently denying any wrongdoing.

Among the unsealed email disclosures is a message sent from Balmoral in August 2001, signed “A,” which inquired whether Maxwell had found any “inappropriate friends” for the sender.
