Hebron Governor Khaled Dudin announced on Monday that Israeli forces have withdrawn from the city in the southern occupied West West Bank, ending a 10-day siege. He confirmed that Palestinian security forces have now assumed full control of the area. Governor Dudin stated that families who were displaced due to the operation can now return to their homes. He also assured that relevant authorities and Palestinian security forces are actively monitoring the situation and working to ensure residents can return safely.
The Israeli military initiated the siege on Hebron on October 23, following a shooting attack that resulted in the deaths of two Israeli soldiers and injuries to three others. Israeli forces subsequently killed the two Palestinian attackers. During the 10-day operation, Israeli forces imposed closures on Hebron and surrounding villages. In some areas, Palestinian homes were occupied and repurposed as military posts. The operation also involved forced displacement, the demolition of homes, other structures, and commercial properties, as well as damage to infrastructure.
According to the Hebron Governorate, over 3,300 Palestinians were displaced or otherwise affected, with significant impact in Al-Jalda and Ein Deir Baha. The governorate also reported that 15 homes and other structures were demolished. The operation reportedly caused damage to the local economy and infrastructure, and disrupted educational activities.
