Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) has issued a decree prohibiting national football team head coach Hossam Hassan from appearing on any media outlets governed by Press and Media Regulation Law No. 180 of 2018. This decision is effective immediately and follows a period of intense public scrutiny and social media attention surrounding Hassan due to personal family disputes and controversial statements about national team players.

Hassan's media presence escalated after Egypt's return from the 2026 World Cup. His appearance with his ex-wife and children on Mona al-Shazly’s talk show Ma’akum was one of his last major televised interviews before a series of escalating controversies.

North Coast Incident: Viral video clips recently emerged depicting a private domestic dispute involving Hassan in the North Coast.

Previous Media Ban on Former Wife: In September, following public comments by Dan Adam, the SCMR imposed a ban on his ex-wife's media appearances. This action was taken to protect personal privacy, uphold public standards, and maintain media ethics. The council has confirmed this ban remains in effect due to ongoing legal proceedings between the former spouses.

Dressing Room Friction and Squad Fallout: In addition to personal matters, Hassan faced significant criticism from sports circles for his candid media statements concerning national team players. His public remarks created tension within the national squad during their AFCON qualification campaign, particularly before their match against Angola. Specific comments directed at veteran goalkeeper Mohamed al-Shenawy generated widespread backlash, negatively impacting squad dynamics and drawing criticism from prominent sports figures.
