Amidst escalating rhetoric from United States President Donald Trump suggesting a potential resumption of full-scale strikes, Iran has intensified its diplomatic outreach and strengthened ties with Russia. Reports indicate that the US Central Command (CENTCOM) was preparing for major military operations in Iran, awaiting orders from Washington. President Trump's statements, including remarks about potentially having to “destroy” parts of Iran, have heightened regional tensions.

Tehran's diplomatic push follows Iran's downing of two US reconnaissance drones near Qeshm island in the Strait of Hormuz, an area previously targeted by the US. Iran has warned of retaliation should the US proceed with larger strikes.

Iran has presented a new nuclear and peace proposal to the US through Qatari mediators. This proposal is contingent on Washington meeting Tehran's seven demands, which include the lifting of sanctions, unfreezing Iranian assets, and ending the US naval blockade of its ports. Iran has linked the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the restart of peace talks, including those concerning its nuclear program, to the fulfillment of these demands.

Reports suggest Russia may supply Iran with helicopter-mounted launchers for precision-guided missiles, despite its own needs for the war in Ukraine. The deepening ties between Russia and Iran have been noted since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with Iran providing drones to Russia and reportedly receiving assistance in developing missiles and potentially nuclear weapons technology.

Discussions between Iran and Russia also included plans for constructing gas pipelines from Russia to Iran, aimed at addressing Iran's gas shortages and facilitating Russian energy sales to neighboring countries. This comes after Iran's natural gas refineries were reportedly hit during recent US-Israeli strikes.

In parallel, Iran has been engaging with regional leaders. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held calls with his counterparts in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Turkiye to discuss regional developments and de-escalation efforts. Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, emphasized support for freedom of maritime navigation. Oman's foreign ministry also highlighted discussions on the safety of passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the US midterm elections and public sentiment regarding the war on Iran and energy prices, President Trump has not ruled out further strikes. While some analysts suggest Trump may prefer diplomacy, his administration's stance remains unpredictable, with advisors described as
