Stunner at MKM Stadium: Newly-Promoted Hull City Shocks Manchester United 2-0

Newly-promoted Hull City pulled off a stunning upset on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, defeating Manchester United 2-0 at the MKM Stadium. First-half goals from defenders Nobel Mendy and Semi-Ajayi secured a thoroughly deserved victory for Hull in their first English top-flight match since 2017.

Manager Sergej Jakirovic deployed a resilient back five that completely neutralized Manchester United's attack. Despite a second-half appearance from Marcus Rashford—his first for the Red Devils since December 2024—United struggled to break through.

Hull captain Louis Coyle praised the team's character and resilience after the historic win, while Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes admitted the team made the same defensive mistakes as last season.
