Manchester United looked set for a much-needed victory, but Dominic Solanke scored in stoppage time to salvage a point for 10-man Tottenham at Old Trafford on Saturday. Both teams were in dire need of a win, and when Bryan Mbeumo broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute, it seemed as though the pressure would ease on United boss Michael Carrick. Things worsened for Spurs when Rodrigo Bentancur was sent off for a headbutt on Luke Shaw, but Solanke headed home Sandro Tonali's cross deep into stoppage time to earn the visitors a point.

“I'm not happy with the amount of points we've got so far, for sure, you know,” said Carrick. “I'm not hiding, there's no hiding from that. I think it could have been different for a couple of little things here or there, but the reality is the reality, we've got to accept it, you know. We need to put things in a direction, in a positive direction quite quickly, that's pretty plain.”

Man United Player Ratings

Senne Lammens – 5: A mistake gave away possession after two minutes, though Solanke spared his blushes. Tottenham had many chances, yet United again conceded to 10 men. The Belgian fronted up to talk to the media again, reflecting on a tough start with only one win from six.

Leny Yoro – 7: Brought in for Diogo Dalot, who dropped to the bench. Made two last-ditch tackles in the first half, the best of which stopped van Hecke, showing encouraging signs at right-back.

Lisandro Martinez – 5: Stopped yet another early Spurs attack, yet couldn't get near Solanke, who should have scored on 51 minutes. Committed a few poor passes, picked up a yellow card for a rash tackle near the halfway line, and was at fault for poor defending on Tottenham's equalizer.

Harry Maguire – 6: Heavily involved as United struggled to clear their lines during a frantic start. A pirouette on 29 minutes lifted the crowd and proved to be a turning point as the team pushed higher.

Luke Shaw – 6: Found himself central to the drama on 78 minutes. Outraged by a tackle, he pushed Bentancur to the ground and was subsequently headed by the Argentine, who received a red card while Shaw was booked. Shaky early on, but crossed smartly on 47 minutes and was involved in the build-up for the opening goal.

Kobbie Mainoo – 6: Left stranded early by Lammens before Solanke missed his chance. Pushed up in the second half and made a strong block to stop Savio on 68 minutes.

Youri Tielemans – 5: Slow with the ball, hindering United's ability to connect in higher areas, though he did have a goal ruled out for offside.

Amad Diallo – 6: Making his first start of the season, he was forced back defensively as Spurs mounted constant attacks. Managed United's first shot on target on 33 minutes before being substituted shortly after.

Bruno Fernandes – 5: Uncharacteristically quiet in the first half, but improved after the break, notably nutmegging Senesi and shooting wide on 63 minutes before receiving a yellow card for a challenge on Van Hecke.

Bryan Mbeumo – 7: Scored the crucial opening goal with a superb finish. Also provided a dangerous ball for Amad early on and showcased his pace late in the match.

Mathema Cunha – 7: Operating largely on the left, he won possession back in rare attacks and urged the fans on. Set up Mbeumo's goal and registered a late shot on target.
