Egyptian swimmer Abdelrahman Sameh triumphed by winning the gold medal in the 50m butterfly event on Saturday evening at the 2026 Mediterranean Games, hosted in Taranto, Italy.

Sameh powered through the race with a winning time of 23.18 seconds, successfully shattering the competition record. The 20th edition of the Mediterranean Games in Taranto runs through September 3, featuring 3,803 athletes representing 26 countries.

The Egyptian delegation has a strong presence, competing across 23 sports—including archery, athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, boxing, canoeing and kayaking, equestrian, fencing, swimming, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, paddling, rowing, sailing, shooting, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, fin swimming, and inline skating.
