Filipina tennis star Alex Eala and her Canadian partner Felix Auger-Aliassime were eliminated from the US Open mixed doubles in the first round after suffering a straight-sets defeat against Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils.

The husband-and-wife duo of Monfils and Svitolina secured a quick 4-1, 4-1 victory in just 39 minutes at Louis Armstrong Stadium in New York. The opening three rounds of the mixed doubles tournament at the US Open utilize shortened sets consisting of four games before returning to the standard six-game format for the final.

During the match, Eala and Auger-Aliassime recorded eight unforced errors, whereas their opponents committed only one. The Filipino-Canadian pairing captured 23 points, compared to the 34 points won by the Ukrainian-French tandem.

Following their victory, Svitolina and Monfils advance to face Katerina Siniakova and Henry Patten, who previously defeated Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic with a score of 1-4, 4-2, 10-2.

Meanwhile, Alex Eala now shifts her focus to the women's singles competition, with the draw scheduled for Thursday. Entering the final Grand Slam of the year ranked No 18 in the WTA rankings, the 21-year-old stands as the highest-ranked Southeast Asian woman in history.
