Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion have officially confirmed the signing of Algerian defender Jaouen Hadjam from Swiss champions Young Boys for an undisclosed fee on a contract running until 2031.

The club announced the acquisition on Tuesday through a creative video featuring the left-back enjoying mint tea in a local cafe.

With this move, Hadjam joins fellow Algerian internationals Rayan Ait-Nouri of Manchester City and Mohamed El Bachir Belloumi of Hull City in the Premier League. Riyad Mahrez, formerly of Leicester City and Manchester City, remains the most notable Algerian player to have featured in the competition.

Born in Paris, the 23-year-old initially represented France at the youth level before switching his international allegiance to Algeria in 2023, subsequently earning 21 caps for his country. During the FIFA World Cup 2026, Hadjam featured in three of Algeria's four matches.

Before making the switch to Brighton & Hove Albion, Hadjam made 98 appearances across all competitions for Young Boys following his transfer from Ligue 1 club Nantes in 2024. His football education also included time in Paris Saint-Germain’s youth academy.

The announcement follows a strong start to the league campaign for Brighton & Hove Albion, who secured a 4-0 victory over Europa League holders Aston Villa on Sunday.
