Scott McTominay, the former Manchester United star who transferred to Napoli in 2024, is scheduled to undergo a surgical procedure for an irregular heartbeat, according to an announcement by the Serie A club.
Napoli confirmed that Scott McTominay will remain sidelined until the conclusion of the season's initial international break, ruling him out of action until October.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Napoli explained: “Following the development of a minor, benign arrhythmia, Scott McTominay over the coming days will undergo an operation a PFA [pulsed field ablation].”
A PFA represents a minimally invasive procedure utilized for treating heart arrhythmias. The 29-year-old Scott McTominay previously earned Serie A MVP honors while guiding Napoli to the 2025 league title. Furthermore, he represented Scotland during the recent World Cup and earned recognition among the contenders for the previous Ballon d'Or.
Scott McTominay was substituted during the second half of Napoli's 2-1 defeat against Como on Sunday. Having emerged from the Manchester United youth system—which he entered during the managerial tenure of Alex Ferguson at the Premier League club—Scott McTominay has accumulated 73 international appearances and 15 goals for Scotland. His 2024 transfer to Napoli followed seven campaigns with the Manchester United senior squad.
