Alex Eala's supporters turned Louis Armstrong Stadium into a vibrant celebration on Thursday as the 17th seed advanced to the third round of the US Open with a composed 6-1, 6-4 victory over Ukraine’s Oleksandra Oliynykova. The crowd was overwhelmingly in Eala's corner, waving flags and chanting to support the Philippines' newest tennis sensation.

“I’m proud to represent Filipinos,” Eala shared during her on-court interview after claiming the win.

Eala dominated the early stages by winning the first nine games, avenging a previous loss to Oliynykova at the Internationaux de Strasbourg in May. Although the second set proved much tougher as Oliynykova utilized slices and looping shots to disrupt the rhythm, Eala maintained her composure to close out the match in one hour and four minutes. She will next face American Iva Jovic.

Meanwhile, world No 4 Coco Gauff battled past Paula Badosa 6-4, 7-6 on a sweltering evening at Arthur Ashe Court. Despite Badosa holding a positive career record against the American, Gauff kept her nerve during a tense second-set tiebreak to extend her campaign for a second Flushing Meadows title. Gauff will face Spain's Cristina Bucsa in the next round.

In another marquee match, two-time champion Naomi Osaka overcame early mistakes and mental frustration to defeat Czech player Katerina Siniakova 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Osaka utilized a timely bathroom break before the final set to reset her mindset, sprinting through the deciding set to secure her place in the third round, where she will meet Belgian Elise Mertens.
