The unified card, a replacement for the ration card, has sparked widespread interest following its gradual rollout across Egypt. The Supply and Internal Trade Ministry announced that the unified card will be delivered to citizens free of charge, with the Egypt Post playing a key and effective role in the issuance system.
To obtain the card, interested individuals must visit the Egypt Post to open a personal account. Citizens must register their national ID card details and a mobile phone number registered in their name with a mobile network operator. Additionally, the card is equipped with a smart fingerprint to ensure that services reach those entitled to them.
The unified card is a prepaid electronic card used for depositing or receiving funds directly, completing purchases at point-of-sale terminals, and withdrawing cash from National Post Authority ATMs. Furthermore, it facilitates payments for digital government services, the disbursement of subsidized bread and rationed goods at bakeries and ration card distributors, and comprehensive health insurance services.
Cards will be distributed after the head of the household receives a text message instructing family members over 16 years of age to visit a specific post office or supply office. The head of the household will receive a card for family food and bread subsidies, while other members receive individual cards for health insurance and payment services. Collection points include post offices, supply offices, comprehensive health insurance offices, and governorate headquarters.
