Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has emphasized that modernizing the infrastructure of the petroleum sector is a foundational element for strengthening energy security and boosting Egypt's economic competitiveness. Speaking during the general assembly meetings of the Petroleum Pipelines Company and Assiut Oil Refining Company to review fiscal year 2025/2026 financial results, Badawi outlined that upgrading refineries, enhancing crude and petroleum product transport networks, and expanding storage capacities are primary sector objectives for the upcoming period.
The meetings featured participation from Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid, and Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem via videoconference, alongside other key sector officials. Badawi highlighted that these strategic initiatives maximize the value of Egypt's petroleum resources, increase added value for crude, and improve distribution efficiency, thereby reinforcing the nation's standing as a regional energy hub.
Coordination between the petroleum and electricity ministries was lauded for successfully securing fuel supplies for power stations and maintaining grid stability during peak summer demand. Minister of Electricity Mahmoud Esmat acknowledged these efforts, noting that sustained cooperation stabilized the grid during peak loads exceeding 40,000 MW.
During the Petroleum Pipelines Company session, Chairman Haggag Rabie Keilany reported that the firm successfully met Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation transport targets, managing a network of 6,300 km of pipelines that transported over 8.2 billion ton-km across 155 storage depots holding 2.5 million cubic meters. Ongoing strategic projects include expanding the Sokhna terminal, renewing the Port Said-Abu Sultan-Suez pipeline, and constructing the MIDOR-Hamra line. Badawi instructed leadership to formulate a comprehensive five-year plan to further upgrade transport infrastructure and maximize operational efficiency.
At the Assiut Oil Refining Company assembly, Chairman Issa Abdel Aal announced an output value of nearly 3 billion dollars, refining 3.314 million tons of crude, with high-value products accounting for 57% of total output. Plans for a third distillation unit will double refining capacity from 4.5 to 9.5 million tons annually. Furthermore, Abdel Aal highlighted the company's commitment to regional development, noting that 95% of the workforce comprises Upper Egypt residents, alongside various social responsibility initiatives in education and healthcare.
