American Coco Gauff staged a remarkable comeback, saving two match points to defeat fifth seed Mirra Andreeva 2-6, 7-6 (7), 6-2 on Wednesday. The victory secures her a spot in the US Open semi-finals after recovering from a difficult opening set at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The 2023 champion struggled to find her usual firepower early on and found herself on the brink of defeat during the tiebreak before turning the match around with a decisive forehand strike. Reflecting on her performance, Coco Gauff said, “The motto of the match was just to fight.”

Mirra Andreeva dominated the early stages, sprinting through the first four games while keeping unforced errors to a minimum. Following a locker room break, Coco Gauff drew inspiration from compatriot Frances Tiafoe's recent comeback victory.

After regaining momentum in the second set, Coco Gauff overcame serving struggles and twice saved match point during a grueling 39-shot rally to force a deciding third set. In the final set, Coco Gauff maintained her intensity, eventually breaking Mirra Andreeva to love in the seventh game to seal the win.

Coco Gauff now advances to face second seed Elena Rybakina in the semi-finals, following Elena Rybakina's earlier victory over Zheng Qinwen.
