Record seven-time winners India are set to face defending champions Sri Lanka in the Women’s T20 Asia Cup final on Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The 15-match competition reaches its climax as both undefeated teams prepare for the title showdown.
In a tournament characterized largely by low-scoring contests, both Indian and Sri Lankan spin units have thrived, with Deepti Sharma leading the heavyweights and captain Chamari Athapaththu guiding the title holders. India's strong title bid has been further bolstered by the top-order pairing of Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana.
While India reached the final in every edition of the Women’s Asia Cup they have played and remain favourites, Sri Lanka aims to retain the trophy they won two years ago.
India advanced by defeating Bangladesh in the first semifinal by 40 runs on Thursday, while Sri Lanka overcame Pakistan by four wickets in a low-scoring thriller on Friday.
The two sides last met in a T20 international on December 30, 2025, in Thiruvananthapuram, where India secured a 15-run victory to sweep the series 5-0. India holds a dominant record, having won nine of their last 10 T20Is against Sri Lanka.
India is the most successful team in the history of the competition with seven titles (2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2022). Sri Lanka captured their maiden title in the previous edition in 2024 by defeating India by eight wickets in the final.
For India, openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana lead the scoring charts with 168 and 154 runs respectively. All-rounder Deepti Sharma has been vital with 11 wickets, alongside N Shree Charani who has claimed eight wickets. For Sri Lanka, captain Chamari Athapaththu has taken 11 wickets, supported by Sugandika Kumari with six wickets, while Harsthitha Samarawickrama has contributed 89 runs.
