Al Ain made a powerful statement in the AFC Champions League by outplaying Cristiano Ronaldo’s star-studded Al Nassr side during a thrilling tournament opener in the Garden City. Houssine Rahimi, a young Moroccan striker, emerged as the standout performer just over a week after he and his older brother, fellow Al Ain forward Soufiane, mourned the passing of their father. Houssine scored twice before receiving a rapturous ovation upon being substituted. After his departure, Soufiane added a third goal for the hosts, and Georgios Giakoumakis capped off the victory with a fourth.

Playing before a packed 17,433 crowd at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium—where a section remained closed due to previous fan unrest—Al Ain displayed no inferiority complex against their expensively assembled visitors. The hosts immediately pressed forward, with Houssine hitting the post early in the match before Cristiano Ronaldo had an early penalty appeal dismissed by Uzbek referee Ilgiz Tantashev. Houssine eventually broke the deadlock midway through the first half by capitalizing on an errant pass from Saad Al Nasser to fire through the legs of goalkeeper Nawaf Al Aqidi.

Although Al Nassr showed brief signs of life after the interval, Houssine extended the lead to two following brilliant link-up play between Kaku and Matias Palacios. Soufiane then scored the third, prompting desperate moments from Al Nassr, including an ambitious overhead kick from Cristiano Ronaldo into empty seats. Georgios Giakoumakis added the fourth before Al Ain goalkeeper-captain Khalid Essa denied Cristiano Ronaldo a late consolation goal with a brilliant save from a free-kick.
