A little over a week after the passing of their father, the Rahimi brothers paid him the ultimate tribute by outshining the great Cristiano Ronaldo during a sensational night in Al Ain. Soufiane, 30, and Houssine Rahimi, 24, were always destined for football, growing up at Raja Club Athletic, the giant club in Casablanca where their father, Mohamed “Youaari” Rahimi, served as the kitman for over half a century and raised his family in a modest house by the practice ground.
Youaari always dreamed his sons would play for Raja, a wish Soufiane and Houssine fulfilled before both eventually joined Al Ain. On Tuesday night, however, they achieved something even more remarkable as they dominated Al Ain’s AFC Champions League Elite encounter against the galacticos of Al Nassr. Houssine scored the opening two goals in a stunning 4-0 rout, displaying deep emotion after the first strike before giving way to jubilation.
After elder brother Soufiane added the third goal, Al Ain supporters celebrated wildly. Houssine reflected on the victory by saying, “My parents are the secret behind the success of Soufiane and me; I pray for my father and tell him that he left behind men.” Following their father's funeral, Al Ain coach Vladimir Ivic initially granted them time off, but paired them in attack upon their return with incredible results. Ivic praised the brothers for their exceptional professionalism and strong character during a difficult personal time.
Al Ain completely steamrolled their illustrious visitors in a match where Houssine also hit the post and had another effort ruled out for offside. Despite facing Al Nassr's star-studded lineup led by Cristiano Ronaldo, Houssine emphasized that Al Ain simply followed the instructions of their head coach and played with the winning mentality customary of a club familiar with titles.
