It has been a summer of upheaval at Manchester City which has seen the Pep Guardiola era come to an end and a host of key players leave the club. Guardiola's former assistant Enzo Maresca has taken over the Etihad Stadium hotseat and enjoyed an impressive start by winning all four of his Premier League games so far – including the Manchester derby on Sunday – as well as his opening Uefa Champions League match away to Porto.
Player-wise, the likes of John Stones, Bernardo Silva, Nathan Ake, James Trafford, Rodri, Tijjani Reijnders, Nico Gonzalez, Omar Marmoush, and Savio have all departed. There were eight new arrivals during the window, with Elliot Anderson, Geronimo Rulli, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Jeremy Monga, Pierce Charles, Allan Elias, Iliman Ndiaye, and Enzo Fernandez all joining the blue half of Manchester.
Ahead of the club's League Cup match at home to Norwich City on Thursday, Manchester City director of football Hugo Viana has spoken about the summer of change.
Reflecting on the transfer window, Viana stated: "We were cool and we are happy with the window. It was a different summer because a new manager came in, new faces, a World Cup. Everything was a little bit later than normal, but it was important to stay calm and stick to our plan and be patient."
On Maresca's impressive start as manager, Viana noted that the boss already knew the club and had settled in well while bringing his own ideas. Regarding Elliot Anderson, Viana praised the midfielder's work ethic and high energy, highlighting the development under Maresca's guidance. He also emphasized the importance of marquee additions like Enzo Fernandez and the high ceiling of young talent Ayyoub Bouaddi.
