Derbyshire Police have officially closed their investigation into England fast bowler Brydon Carse, confirming that he will face no charges over an alleged nightclub assault.

The 31-year-old was handcuffed during a night out with Durham teammates on August 23 in Derby, central England. Initially arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, he was subsequently de-arrested after agreeing to leave the scene. While police conducted enquiries regarding an alleged assault—speaking directly with the identified victim—they ultimately decided that no further action would be taken.

Despite avoiding criminal charges, Carse remains under a separate investigation by the Cricket Regulator, the disciplinary arm of the English game, to determine if he violated their regulations. Videos of the incident circulated on social media, showing Carse alongside Durham teammate Matthew Potts, while former England captain Ben Stokes was seen in the background.

Carse has continued to play for Durham, helping them secure the Second Division title in the County Championship. However, he has missed out on national selection, being dropped ahead of the second Test against Pakistan and omitted from the white-ball series against Sri Lanka.

England’s limited-overs head coach Brendon McCullum emphasized the importance of off-field responsibilities, while former Test captain Joe Root noted that Carse is deeply apologetic for his actions.
