Real Madrid gained a measure of revenge against Olympiacos Piraeus at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, capturing the inaugural EuroLeague SuperCup on Saturday night. Madrid opened strongly, taking a 24-15 lead in the first quarter and withstanding a fierce challenge to secure a 93-89 victory before a packed crowd at Yas Island's Etihad Arena, which included former Real Madrid stars Gareth Bale and Marcelo.

Walter Tavares earned tournament MVP honors, contributing six points and seven rebounds in the final. The triumph served as redemption after Olympiacos narrowly defeated Madrid in Athens during the EuroLeague's 2025/26 championship final last May. Pedro Martinez, Madrid's winning coach, expressed delight with his squad's mentality and their strong start to the new season.

“Congratulations to my players,” Martinez said. “They believed. We had a horrible moment in the third quarter when Olympiacos played incredible, they suffocated us with their defence. But we survived this very bad moment. In the last quarter, personality … maybe we didn't play very good because we didn't move the ball, but it's preseason, we need to improve and to know each other much better. Mentality is more important than tactics.”

Madrid was paced by Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot with 12 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Facundo Campazzo added seven points, five rebounds, and nine assists. The 35-year-old Argentine guard shared his satisfaction with the outcome: “I think everyone wants to win it, and everyone who played the SuperCup wanted to win it. We played with a lot of hierarchy, with a good level of basketball, so we are happy.”

Earlier in the day, Fenerbahce captured third place by defeating Dubai Basketball 85-77, overcoming a half-time deficit behind a standout performance from Talen Horton-Tucker, who scored 23 points.

Meanwhile, EuroLeague CEO Chus Bueno addressed ongoing discussions regarding a potential partnership with the NBA. Bueno clarified that the EuroLeague has yet to receive a formal proposal outlining the collaboration, despite comments from NBA commissioner Adam Silver regarding an NBA Europe proposal. Bueno reiterated that the EuroLeague remains open to evaluating concrete proposals that contribute to the growth of European basketball.
