Tyson Fury has revealed that his upcoming fight with British compatriot Anthony Joshua, scheduled for December 11, is currently in jeopardy. According to Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and his promoter Eddie Hearn are attempting to pull out of the bout between the former world heavyweight champions.
The matchup was recently announced by promoter Turki Alalshikh and streaming platform Netflix. The agreement sets up an all-British showdown for the WBA "Super" heavyweight championship to take place in Cardiff.
"Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn are trying to pull out of this fight. They’re saying they’re not going to fight now," Tyson Fury stated in a social media video published late on Friday.
Previously, discussions for the high-profile encounter had pointed toward venues in New York and London before organizers selected the 80,000-capacity Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital. The venue, known for hosting major football and rugby events, as well as finals for the Champions League and FA Cup, provides the setting where both fighters can begin preparations.
The historic British boxing event is scheduled to be broadcast globally on the streaming service Netflix.
Tyson Fury, 37, enters the matchup following a victory over Mariusz Wach in Thailand in July. Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua, 36, secured a win against Kristian Prenga two months ago after overcoming two first-round knockdowns.
