UAE Dominates Asian Games with Three Gold Medals in Jiu-Jitsu

The UAE secured three gold medals in jiu-jitsu at the Asian Games on Thursday, courtesy of stellar performances from Khaled Al Shehhi, Ahmed Andeez, and Balqees Abdulla.

In the men’s 62kg final, Khaled Al Shehhi triumphed over compatriot Omar Al Suwaidi to claim his second consecutive Asian Games gold medal, having previously won the same weight class at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou. Meanwhile, Ahmed Andeez captured the gold in the men’s 69kg final.

The women's division also saw an all-Emirati showdown, where Balqees Abdulla defeated Al Anoud Al Harbi to take home the women’s 48kg title.

These victories bring the UAE's total medal count at the Aichi-Nagoya Games to seven, comprising four golds and three silvers. Earlier in the competition, teenager Sulaiman Abdulrahman earned the nation's first medal with a silver in the men’s 400m final, which was shortly followed by Mariam Kareem securing gold in the women’s 400m hurdles final.
