India and Pakistan are set to face off in the Asian Games men's T20 gold medal match in Nisshin on Saturday. The double T20 world champions have brought a full-strength Indian team as they look to defend their Asian Games gold and emulate the efforts of the women's side. India secured their spot in the final with a dominant 124-run victory over a second-string Sri Lankan side in the semi-final, following a quarter-final against Afghanistan that was washed out. Against Sri Lanka, Ishan Kishan top-scored with 80 before India bowled the islanders out for just 45.

Pakistan also had a relatively smooth path to the final, defeating Bangladesh by six wickets after successfully chasing a modest target of 112 in their semi-final clash. India enters the final as favorites, having won six consecutive matches in the format against Pakistan at major competitions. A potential diplomatic flashpoint regarding medal ceremonies has been avoided, as Asian Cricket Council chief Mohsin Naqvi will not travel to Japan for the Asian Games due to prior commitments.

Regarding weather concerns, much of the men's cricket section at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya was previously disrupted by rain, leading to six consecutive washouts before clearing up for the semi-finals. If weather interrupts Saturday's final and no result is achieved, both India and Pakistan will be awarded gold as joint winners. Prior to the gold medal match, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will compete in the bronze medal playoff.
