European football’s governing body has announced a formal disciplinary investigation into an alleged spitting incident involving an Israeli player and a member of Ireland’s coaching staff during a tense UEFA Nations League fixture.
The match, held on Sunday at the TSC Arena in Baka Topola, Serbia, saw heated exchanges between players and officials as both teams headed to the locker rooms at half-time. According to Irish media reports, Ireland’s athletic coach Damien Doyle accused an Israeli player of spitting at him in the tunnel area.
Addressing reporters after the match, Ireland’s head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson chose not to disclose specific details about the confrontation.
