Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell tied a Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) record after scoring 29 points before sitting out the fourth quarter, helping her team secure a 101-95 victory over the Toronto Tempo for their fifth consecutive win. Caitlin Clark contributed 24 points for the Indiana Fever, marking the 16th time this season that Clark and Mitchell have each scored 20 or more points in the same game, which sets a new WNBA record previously shared by Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter with Phoenix in 2008.
Mitchell also reached the 20-point threshold for the 20th straight game on Tuesday, matching Las Vegas guard A’ja Wilson for the longest such streak in league history. However, after scoring eight points in less than a minute late in the third quarter, Mitchell headed to the locker room and did not return. Fever coach Stephanie White stated after the game that Mitchell appeared to become "overheated" in the warm environment rather than sustaining a serious injury.
Caitlin Clark added seven assists for the Indiana Fever (24-12), while Aliyah Boston contributed 16 points and Sophie Cunningham scored 13 points off the bench. The Toronto Tempo (10-24) suffered their 11th loss in a row after being outshot 52.9% to 39.1%. Marina Mabrey led the Tempo with 22 points, and Brittney Sykes returned from a foot injury to record 15 points. Toronto reserves Aneesah Morrow and Temi Fagbenle added 14 and 13 points respectively, with Morrow also pulling down 16 rebounds, while Kiki Rice chipped in 10 points.
The Indiana Fever started the fourth quarter with a 12-point advantage, which grew to 14 points following three free throws by Sophie Cunningham with 6:45 remaining. Although Indiana experienced shooting struggles from the field, allowing the Toronto Tempo to narrow the gap to seven points with 2:55 left on the clock, late plays including a steal by Makayla Timpson leading to a Cunningham 3-pointer preserved the victory despite late 3-pointers from Marina Mabrey.
