Motorists traveling between Fujairah and Khorfakkan, in Sharjah, face a reduced speed limit of 100kph starting Tuesday. Fujairah Police announced the decrease from the previous limit of 120kph in a statement on X on Sunday, urging all road users to obey traffic signs and instructions to guarantee public safety.
Recent analysis by the Dubai-based Bin Yaber Driving Institute ranked Umm Al Quwain lower than Fujairah for road safety among the seven emirates. Fujairah's low position on the index stemmed largely from limited driver education availability, featuring only two driving schools. The findings also highlighted concerns regarding above-average death rates, hit-and-run incidents, and the highest average driving speed in the UAE.
Conversely, the same index placed Sharjah at the top for road safety, noting the lowest death rate at 1.78 and a hit-and-run incident rate of 5.33 per 100,000 residents. Sharjah also recorded a safer average driving speed of 31.6kph, reflecting more cautious driving habits alongside heavy traffic conditions.
