Despite ongoing geopolitical challenges, including tensions with Iran and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, the United Arab Emirates is steadfastly advancing its investment and technology initiatives in the United States. This commitment was highlighted in a letter from Yousef Al Otaiba, the UAE's Ambassador to Washington and Minister of State, to the US-UAE Business Council.

Ambassador Al Otaiba stated that neither the UAE nor the council members have wavered in the face of these challenges. "We adapt, we persevere – and more than ever, we do it in close partnership with the US," he wrote. "Our commitments to the United States remain firm, our major investments are moving forward, and expanded access to advanced technology is opening further opportunities." He emphasized the UAE's status as one of America's most trusted partners, assuring that this trust will not be compromised.

The ambassador also acknowledged the US's trust in the UAE's ability to operate advanced defense systems, such as F-16s and Apache helicopters, which have been crucial in addressing regional aggression. "This not only shielded the UAE homeland, it was also a key link in the integrated network that defended American personnel, assets and allies across the region," Al Otaiba noted.

Further underscoring the strengthening bilateral ties, the US Department of Commerce in July granted the UAE enhanced export status, facilitating easier transfer of US military equipment, satellites, spacecraft, artificial intelligence, and energy technology. Al Otaiba anticipates this upgrade will foster greater collaboration, leading to "more speed, more scale and more opportunity on both sides." He also highlighted the UAE's robust legal and security frameworks designed to ensure sophisticated technologies are handled responsibly, mentioning measures like ring-fenced security environments, approved end-users, and continuous monitoring.

Concrete examples of this partnership include Space42's recent $1 billion communications deal with Viasat and significant aircraft orders totaling over $65 billion from Emirates, Etihad, and flydubai for Boeing aircraft equipped with General Electric engines. These ventures, Al Otaiba explained, contribute to American manufacturing, energy, and computing capacity while fostering innovation for US companies.

The UAE's 10-year, $1.4 trillion tech investment framework in the US is reportedly ahead of schedule, with hundreds of billions already invested in US technologies, companies, and energy projects. The collaboration extends to the artificial intelligence sector, where the UAE is recognized for its forward-thinking approach. The arrival of critical AI components from Nvidia, facilitated by security arrangements, marks another milestone. The establishment of the five-gigawatt UAE-US AI Campus, powered by American chips and built with American partners, is described as a testament to the UAE's resolve and the depth of the bilateral relationship.

Ambassador Al Otaiba concluded by asserting that despite past geopolitical obstacles, the UAE-US connection has been strengthened, and the UAE remains committed to protecting US technology and creating mutual opportunities.
