Syrian state news agency SANA reported that Israeli forces killed a disabled man during a raid in Syria’s southern Deraa governorate. The civilian was fatally shot early on Thursday in the village of Jamla, located in Daraa’s western countryside. According to SANA, Israeli forces had positioned snipers on rooftops in the area. The victim's body was subsequently transported to Deraa National Hospital.

The Israeli military has not yet issued a comment regarding the report. Since the removal of Syria’s long-standing ruler Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, the Israeli army has conducted hundreds of strikes within Syria and has frequently moved troops into Syrian territory. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa has denounced Israel’s “aggressions,” stating they “undermine peace and security.”

In recent days, Israeli forces have reportedly conducted raids and destroyed olive groves in Quneitra province, adjacent to Deraa. SANA reported that in one such raid on Thursday in the village of Turnejeh, located in the Quneitra countryside, Israeli forces searched homes and detained an individual. Earlier in the week, the agency also reported that Israeli forces destroyed trees in a large field near the village of Saida.

Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday condemned “the intensification of incursions by the Israeli occupation” in Quneitra and Deraa. Israeli officials have consistently stated their intention to maintain troops in what they term a “security zone” in southern Syria. Negotiations between the two countries for a security agreement have been ongoing but have largely stalled since the commencement of the US-Israel war on Iran in February.
