The United States has been selected by FIFA to host the first-ever Women's Club World Cup in 2028. The announcement was made by FIFA on Thursday, with the tournament scheduled to take place from January 5-30, 2028. This inaugural event will feature 16 elite clubs from all six continental confederations. FIFA stated that the decision to award the hosting rights to the US was based on its extensive experience in organizing FIFA tournaments, the advanced state of its infrastructure and services, and the significant interest in women's football within the country. The introduction of this tournament is seen as a major step towards the professionalization and global growth of women's club football, providing top-tier teams with a significant international platform to compete every four years. Originally planned for 2026, the tournament's start was postponed by FIFA to ensure it has a clear schedule, following the 2027 Women's World Cup and preceding the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The US has a demonstrated history of successfully hosting major sporting events, including the men's 2026 World Cup. Notably, Chelsea are the current holders of the men's FIFA Club World Cup, having defeated Paris St Germain in the 2025 final, which was also held in the US.
