Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad has announced the completion of comprehensive urban plans for Nakhl and Al-Hasana, two cities in North Sinai Governorate. These plans are designed to regulate urban expansion, optimize land utilization, and forecast future requirements for infrastructure such as roads and public services. This initiative is part of the Egyptian government's broader strategy to enhance public services and foster integrated development throughout the Sinai Peninsula, adhering to the directives of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Awad received a detailed report from Said Helmy Abdel Khaleq, head of the Local Planning and Integrated Local Development Sector. The report highlighted how the finalized plans will manage urban growth, guide land use, and establish a clear development framework for the coming years. Specifically, the planning area for Nakhl is projected to increase from 369 feddans to 1,251 feddans by 2037. This expansion aims to accommodate anticipated urban and population increases, identifying suitable locations for activities and services to meet the future needs of the residents.
The detailed urban plan for Al-Hasana encompasses 403 feddans and specifies land uses, traffic circulation patterns, and road networks to steer urban development and support orderly expansion. Minister Awad stated that the completion of these plans represents a significant stride in improving urban planning for both cities. The plans clarify land-use designations and outline the necessary road and public service infrastructure, which will contribute to elevated living standards and a more organized urban environment for the inhabitants.
She further affirmed the ministry's commitment to ongoing collaboration with relevant authorities and the North Sinai Governorate to propel local planning and development. This collaboration will prioritize environmental and urban planning standards, support essential services and infrastructure, stimulate economic growth, and generate employment opportunities for the local population. Minister Awad elaborated that detailed urban plans are crucial instruments for managing urban growth, as they define residential, commercial, service, and industrial zones, and establish primary and secondary road networks. Such planning is vital for curbing unplanned sprawl and unauthorized construction, ensuring that development aligns with the current and future needs of residents.
Abdel Khaleq emphasized that these plans will aid in setting priorities for urban expansion, identifying infrastructure and service necessities, enhancing land-use efficiency, and directing development and investment in accordance with designated land uses and prevailing planning regulations.
