US technology firm Scale AI has officially established a new office in the United Arab Emirates, located at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The announcement was made on Monday, coinciding with the Dubai AI Festival, where the expansion into the UAE was formalized during a signing ceremony.

Founded in 2016 and currently valued at $29 billion with over 1,000 employees, Scale AI specializes in organizing and labeling data for artificial intelligence applications. Trevor Thompson, global managing director at the company, expressed enthusiasm for the move, stating that the UAE has demonstrated a "clear, ambitious vision for AI" and is actively implementing it across its government and economy. He believes Scale AI's objectives align seamlessly with the UAE's broader technological aspirations.

Scale AI's client roster includes major technology companies such as Meta, OpenAI, and Microsoft, as well as government entities like the US Air Force and US Army. Thompson emphasized that establishing a presence at DIFC represents a "long-term commitment" to support UAE institutions in developing trustworthy AI solutions for critical applications and decision-making processes.

The company's software is instrumental in enhancing the reliability of AI solutions by assisting with tasks like identifying objects in images, tagging text, and labeling information for AI apps and chatbots. Scale AI's largely automated software allows for human review and adjustments to ensure accuracy, contributing to its growing influence in the AI infrastructure sector.

Scale AI was founded by Alexandr Wang, who identified the growing need for high-quality training data management in AI development. Wang's entrepreneurial journey has placed him among prominent AI tech leaders like Nvidia's Jensen Huang and OpenAI's Sam Altman. Following Wang's departure to Meta, where he now serves as chief AI officer, Jason Droege took over as interim CEO before Francis deSouza, formerly of Google Cloud, was appointed as the new successor.

The new UAE office is situated within the Dubai AI Campus at DIFC, an initiative that forms part of the Dubai Universal Blueprint for Artificial Intelligence. This blueprint aims to provide essential infrastructure, business support, and international connections for AI companies operating in Dubai.
