Palestinians are sifting through the wreckage of an apartment building located in the Remal neighbourhood of Gaza City following a fatal Israeli air attack that occurred on October 3, 2026.

An Israeli air strike targeting a residential apartment in western Gaza City has resulted in the deaths of at least five individuals and left at least six others with severe injuries, medical personnel at al-Shifa Hospital confirmed. The missile struck the al-Asala building situated in the Remal neighbourhood during the early hours of Saturday morning without any prior warning, as reported by Al Jazeera’s Hani al-Shaer broadcasting from Khan Younis.

Remal stands as one of the most densely populated residential zones within Gaza City, providing shelter to thousands of displaced individuals residing in makeshift camps throughout the area. Al-Shaer reported that the strike occurred in the dead of night while residents were asleep. "We heard fighter jets getting louder, then three strikes followed, hitting the apartment and killing those inside," he stated.

The projectile pierced the targeted residence and tore through the lower levels, generating widespread destruction across the multi-storey structure. Flames raged for a minimum of one hour prior to Palestinian Civil Defence teams successfully extinguishing the fires.

Al-Shaer characterized the aftermath as a "horrific" scene, with individuals trapped beneath the debris as they slept. Civil defence units maintained their search operations at the location for missing persons and remains, he noted, while Israeli drones persisted in their flights overhead and fighter jets echoed low across the Strip.

Al-Shifa Hospital reported that the fatalities comprised four women, including an elderly Christian woman and her daughter. The six injured victims were transported to al-Shifa Hospital to receive medical care.
