Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has affirmed that Bruno Fernandes is "fully committed" to the club and will continue to serve as captain. This statement comes as the team prepares to face Chelsea in the Premier League, following a period of intense scrutiny.

The Red Devils have faced criticism, with both Lisandro Martinez and Fernandes publicly questioning the team's decision-making. Fernandes was notably left out of the squad for Sunday's 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth after he had openly criticized United's tactics following their 4-1 Champions League loss to Como. Martinez had previously raised concerns about the club's investment in players, singling out director of football Jason Wilcox.

Carrick addressed Fernandes' absence from the previous match, stating, "It was a decision based on what we felt was right for the game. That's it. Bruno is fully committed to this football club and there are absolutely no issues. We move forward, make decisions as we go and focus on Saturday's game." He added, "He's the one that's kind of led the team so well for many a game and many a year, and he will continue to do that."

Carrick is expected to remain in charge at least until the Chelsea match. Manchester United's winless streak has now extended to eight games across all competitions, placing them 16th in the Premier League, just one point above the relegation zone.

Senior club officials held discussions on Monday regarding Carrick's position, but no official announcement was made, indicating he will continue in his role for the time being. "I totally get the position. I understand the job, I understand the responsibilities, I understand what comes with that so I really don't need any assurances from anyone in that regard," Carrick commented.

Despite Carrick reportedly retaining the trust of the fans, the team faces a challenging schedule ahead, with upcoming fixtures against Chelsea, AS Roma in the Champions League, Aston Villa, and Liverpool. Carrick, who took over in January, led United to a third-place finish last season, but the team is yet to secure a Premier League victory since August 30th against Ipswich Town.
